Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port was the UK's first designer outlet, opened in 1995, and remains its largest with over 140 boutiques offering up to 60% off RRP. The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre was a multi-storey indoor shopping centre on Baillie Street in Rochdale town centre, anchored in earlier years by Argos, Wilkinson, New Look, TJ Hughes and Peacocks. The centre lost its anchor tenants progressively from 2017 onwards and has been permanently closed as a retail destination since the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020, with approved plans to convert its upper floors into a banqueting hall and events venue.
